Staying Safe
Footbridge: The footbridge is CLOSED until demolition and construction begin late this summer. If you observe anyone crossing the bridge or jumping off, notify the Guilford Police.
Uncas Point: The gate to Uncas Point will be locked from now on to discourage use by non-SHA residents. SHA residents may open the gate if needed (lock combination = 2020); please close and lock when you leave. If you see non-SHA residents or groups of teens gathering on SHA private property at Uncas Point, or at The Landing or beach/tennis courts, call the Guilford Police.
Tennis courts: Please follow USTA guidelines for safe play that are posted on the bulletin board at the Tweed House. SHYC leases two courts for instruction over the summer. Steve Godiksen, SHYC head instructor, will follow these guidelines for the children's safety. He is also charged by SHA with monitoring the tennis courts, new patio, parking lot and beach to ensure use by SHYC and SHA residents and their guests only. The paddle tennis court is open for paddle tennis only (not for children's play).
Parking: Two additional parking spaces have been added at the Chimney Corner-Prospect Avenue end of the footbridge. Sachem's Head Yacht Club (SHYC) members can use the tennis court parking lot this summer. No parking is permitted at any time inside the entrances at The Landing or Uncas Point. No overnight parking is permitted on Chimney Corner Circle.
Dinghies and Kayaks: The kayak rack and the dinghy docks at The Landing and Uncas Point are full. Do not leave boats or equipment on the grass or on the docks. This summer, the SHYC launch will come to the dock at The Landing for pick-up and drop-off (no scheduled service), so please tie dinghies at the ends and behind the dock so the launch can come in. DO NOT USE SOMEONE ELSE'S DINGHY!
Storm Outfall Sampling: Beginning as early as Monday June 15 and continuing for two to three months, the Town of Guilford will sample water exiting from the stormwater system at literally hundreds of discharge points throughout the town. The town's contractor, Weston and Sampson, will come at low tide, possibly more than once at each location, in wet and dry weather to gather water samples with a cup at the end of a pole. Weston and Sampson crew dressed in construction vests will arrive in a marked vehicle. I have asked the Town Engineering Department to ask that the crew knock or ring doorbells before crossing private property to get to the discharge points in Sachem's Head. SHA Board
Meetings: SHA Board meetings will continue as virtual meetings; schedule and log-in information are shown on the SHA website under the Calendar tab. The format and venue for the Annual Meeting in September TBD.
Responsibilities: SHA Board is made up of 10 volunteers who manage our common property and municipal responsibilities such as taxation, zoning enforcement, traffic enforcement, garbage collection, repairs, clean-up, hosting community gatherings, communications, and a lot more.
