Coast Hazard Mitigation Update

The Town has commissioned design of coastal hazard mitigation projects in Sachem's Head.  Starting next week, engineers and surveyors from Race Coastal Engineering and Milone & MacBroom will be in the neighborhood, continuing their study of what it will take to mitigate the risk of storm damage at Falcon Road and flooding at Chimney Corner Circle.  They will deploy "data loggers" in the water at the west end of the beach, in the cove south of Fisher's garage on Prospect Avenue, and near the Chimney Corner Circle end of the bridge.  Small PVC pipes attached to small buoys will be visible from shore at each location for about a month while they gather tidal data.  Sometime in the next few weeks, crews will be in the neighborhood to bore small test holes for study of subsurface conditions on Falcon Road (4 borings) and Prospect Avenue-Chimney Corner Circle (10 borings).

These consultants are still gathering data for the design phase of the projects. They will then present proposals and alternatives to the Town in mid-July.  The proposals will be presented for public input at a meeting for SHA in late August or early September, with the goal of completing the preliminary design for permitting by the end of the year.  The Town will then seek funding for the projects.

We are glad to be working with the Town on these projects that will address threats to property and safety in Sachem's Head.
