Coast Hazard Mitigation
The Town of Guilford has contracted with Race Coastal Engineering for design of projects in Sachem's Head: 1) to reduce storm damage to the seawall at Falcon Road and 2) to prevent flooding at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Chimney Corner Circle. The survey work will begin as early as Thursday this week. Survey crews from Milone & MacBroom Inc. will be in the area with marked trucks and id badges. They may need to enter adjacent properties to complete the survey. If you have any questions about this work, please call Town Engineer Janice Plaziak at 203-453-8037.
Replacement of the Footbridge
Good news: The Guilford Board of Selectmen has identified and approved previously appropriated funding for replacement of the footbridge. This means that the funds are available now and will not need to go through the town's FY2021 budget process. Yet to be done: obtain Board of Finance approval for this use of funds, secure a Certificate of Permission from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and contract for the new bridge. They estimate that it will take six months to complete. We are eager to get the project underway and completed earlier if at all possible. The Town has asked us to "partner" on the project, so we've indicated our willingness to contribute SHA funds (special assessment?) for one-half the cost of the bridge itself (TBD), as SHA did in 1983.
We are also working with the Sachem's Head Yacht Club to address the access issues created for the upcoming 2020 Summer Season. The number of parking places in the neighborhood has not been reduced. We will ask the Club to remind its members about parking only in designated spots and not blocking SHA residents' driveways. We will work with SHYC on a schedule for the launch to use The Landing and the parking lot at the tennis courts.
Tennis and Paddle Tennis Courts
Joe Anastacio, Corinne Wilson and others are planning for repairs to signs and the Tweed House, with upgrades for the summer season. Over the winter, please close the gate to the parking lot when you leave or when you walk by and find it open.

There's a bobcat in the neighborhood!
There's a ferocious dog living on Vineyard Point. Just heard this morning about another attack, this time against a dog on a leash and its owner when the offending dog escaped from the house. Be careful if you walk yours around Vineyard Point!
